Camp, 12th April 2023: The central government yesterday cancelled the collection of vehicle entry tax from commercial vehicles in the jurisdiction of the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB). The Ministry of Defence has issued a notification in this regard.

Last year, the ministry banned vehicle entry fees in cantonments but it continued in Pune cantonment as ‘it was tax allowed by the central government’ in 2001.

Now a notification issued yesterday states, “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 66 of the Cantonments Act, 2006 (41 of 2006), the Cantonment Board, Pune, with the previous sanction of the Central Government, hereby rescinds the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Defence number S.R.O.No.1/2/62/File No.1/2/Vehicle Entry Tax/2001, dated the 26th June, 2001 published in the Gazette of India, Part III, section 4, except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such rescission.”
