FIR Filed After PMC Poll Candidate Allegedly Obstructed While Campaigning in Karvenagar Housing Society
Karvenagar, 7th January 2026: With campaigning intensifying ahead of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections, police have registered a case following a dispute that erupted during a candidate’s outreach programme in the Karvenagar–Hingne Home Colony area.
The incident occurred in the Jijai Garden locality, where a municipal election candidate allegedly faced obstruction while canvassing. Police officials said the housing society had already imposed restrictions on political campaigning within its premises, and tensions arose when the candidate attempted to conduct campaign-related activities despite the ban.
After receiving a complaint, the police registered an FIR regarding the alleged obstruction. Authorities are now examining whether campaigning guidelines applicable to residential societies were adhered to and whether any violations occurred during the episode.
The matter has once again highlighted the recurring issue of electioneering inside housing societies, which often becomes contentious during civic polls. As the PMC elections draw closer, officials say maintaining clarity on campaigning rules and respecting residential regulations will be crucial to avoid similar conflicts.
