AICTE has extended the last date of admission to first year engineering courses in IITs, NITs and other engineering colleges till November 30. “Due to prolonged emergent conditions in the country and requests from various state governments and ongoing admission process of IITs and NITs, the council has decided to extend the last date of admission to the first year of engineering courses (UG and diploma) to November 30. Accordingly, the last date of commencement of first year classes is December 1,” stated AICTE member secretary Rajive Kumar in a letter issued on October 15.

Student induction programme for Academic year 2020-21 is suggested to be held for one week instead of three weeks in the first semester. The remaining two weeks induction programme can be conducted in the subsequent semesters as per the convenience, read the issued statement.

The usual academic year for engineering colleges starts from August every year, however, this year as the country is hit by COVID-19 pandemic, the academic sessions for all courses have been postponed from the regular beginning dates. Many educational institutes including technical colleges were undertaking online classes for existing students to cover a considerable portion of the syllabus.
