Football: St. Vincent’s emerge champions

Pune, 12th February 2025: Host’s St. Vincent’s H.S emerged champions in the football event of the St. Vincent’s Junior League 2024-25. In a close finish, St Vincent’s scored their tenth win downing Hillgreen 3-1 and topped with 31 points (13 matches) after Week-6 of action.

Likewise, Vidya Valley, who also won their last match against Dastur Boys 2-0, claimed second place with 29 points (13 matches). Loyola (29 points) were third owing to an inferior goal difference to Vidya Valley, while Hutchings (26 points finished in fourth place.

On the last day of the league, St Vincent’s needing a win to clinch the league defeated Hillgreen with goals from Anvic Lobo (2) and Jevansh Vyas while Hillgreen netted via Om Shiverkar. The win earned them the maximum wins in the league apart from 2 losses and 1 draw.

In the last round – Week-5 – The Kalyani School, hosts St. Vincent’s H.S and Vidya Valley maintained their winning run and their Top-4 positions.

On the penultimate day of the competition, host’s St. Vincent’s HS picked up 7 points from 3 encounters which included wins over Kline Memorial 3-0 after Rayan Panjabi (2) and Jevansh Vyas scored. Later, they downed Sri Sri Ravishanker 2-0 with Aayan Raut and Anvic Lobo netting and in their third encounter they drew 0-0 with Erin Nosh Nagarwala.

St Vincent’s H.S with a game in hand now occupy second spot (28 points’ 12 matches) and behind arch rivals Loyola (29 points; 13 matches).

The Kalyani School played a major role in arresting Loyola H.S progress by downing the table toppers 1-0 through a Viraj Chachondia goal. Later, The Kalyani School had Vihan Sahu, Prasad Raiyansh, Atharva Tiwari scored to down Dastur Co-Ed 3-0 and pick up 3 points. The two wins took their total to 26 points from 12 matches and occupy fourth position.

Vidya Valley with a huge 5-0 win over Kline Memorial occupy third position. The goal scorers included Malhar D (3) and Aarav Y, Ansh P (1 each). Vidya Valley (26 points; 12 matches) trails St. Vincent’s and Loyola H.S in the standings.

Later, the prizes were given away by Chief Guest for the day Rev. Fr. Dr Kenneth Misquitta, in the presence of Fr. Andrew Fernandes, Principal Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Mrs Sangeeta Das and Principal St. Vincent’s H.S, Fr. Titus who were the guest of honours.

Later, Dr Wilson Andrews delivered the vote of thanks.
