Pune: Wakad Police Arrest Two for Gold Theft to Recover Bakery Business Losses

Pimpri, 12th February 2025: Two thieves from outside Maharashtra have been arrested by Wakad Police for stealing gold jewellery from women to recover losses incurred in their bakery business. Police have recovered gold ornaments worth ₹3.60 lakh from the suspects.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Hifazat Ali Inam Ali Ansari (24) and Sameer Firoz Ansari (20), both residents of Pimple Gurav and originally from Uttar Pradesh.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Vishal Gaikwad, the duo snatched a four-tola gold mangalsutra from two women on 29th January while riding a motorcycle. Police examined around 80 CCTV recordings from the area, which led them to suspect that the culprits were from Pimple Gurav.
On 8th February, police received information about the suspects’ motorcycle heading towards Vishal Nagar. A trap was set, and the accused were apprehended. During interrogation, they confessed to the crime. Police recovered gold ornaments worth ₹3.60 lakh from their possession.
Hifazat had suffered losses in his bakery business and planned to steal 20 tolas of gold to invest in the stock market through trading. The accused had been scouting areas including Pimpri, Chinchwad, Baner, and Bhosari to commit thefts.
The action was carried out under the guidance of DCP Gaikwad and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Wakad Division) Sunil Kurade, by a team led by Senior Police Inspector Nivrutti Kolhatkar, in charge of Wakad Police Station, and Assistant Police Inspector Subhash Chavan.
