Former President Pranab Mukherjee died at the age of 84
New Delhi, August 31, 2020: Former President Pranab Mukherjee died today at the age of 84. He was ill for a long time and was admitted in Army’s Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi. Pranab Mukherjee’s son tweeted to inform the death of the former President.
Earlier, the hospital had said that his health had deteriorated as he suffered septic shock due to a lung infection. Septic shock is a serious condition in which blood pressure stops functioning and body parts fail to get enough oxygen.
The Army Research and Referral Hospital had said that the doctors treating 84-year-old Mukherjee said he was in a deep coma and on a ventilator. The former president was hospitalized on August 10 and underwent brain surgery. Later, he also had an infection in his lungs.
Mukherjee was the 13th President from 2012 to 2017. He was the External Affairs Minister of India from 25 October 2006 to 23 May 2009. He was also the Finance Minister of the country from 24 January 2009 to May 2012. On 20 May 2009, he was elected for the second time to the 15th Lok Sabha from the Jangipur parliamentary seat. He resigned from the Indian National Congress Party on 25 June 2012 and was the 13th President of India from 2012 to 2017.
