Pune, May 31, 2020: Effective measures should be taken to provide uninterrupted electricity supply to the consumers from all categories. There must be no negligence in this matter. The officer or employee who is responsible for the uninterrupted supply of a particular area must be held responsible and strict action must be taken against him, said Maharashtra Energy Minister, Dr Nitin Raut.

He held a meeting on Friday, 29th May through Video Conferencing to review the various works in the Pune, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur and Satara district. The Principal Secretary (Energy) and Chairman & Managing Director of MSEDCL, Dinesh Waghmare was also present for the meeting. “The industries and businesses that were closed due to lockdown which was announced to curb the spread of the Corona Pandemic, are now gradually opening. Along with this, the employees of many government and private organizations are working from home. As it is summer and the temperature is increasing, it is very important to supply uninterrupted electricity to consumers. The areas wherein there is a frequent interruption, the incompetent employee or officer must be held responsible. Senior officers will have to face the consequences”, Raut said.

Baramati Zone has implemented the ‘Ek gaon Ek Divas’ pattern to take care of the maintenance of the electricity distribution system, new connection release and energy bill correction. Raut appreciated this initiative and instructed that the same pattern must be implemented in the rest of the State. The consumers must be given prior information through SMS about any load shedding for maintenance work or even if the supply is interrupted due to any other reason.

He clearly pointed out that a serious note will be taken, if no such prior information about load shedding is given to consumers. The process of selection of members for the Electricity Supply Monitoring Committee at each district and taluka level is commencing. He further said that regular meetings with these committees should be held and taking the local representatives in confidence, the local problems related to electricity distribution should be resolved. Also, special efforts should be taken for bill payment collection.

The minister informed that contractors have been appointed in the entire State for uninterrupted supply and maintenance of Electricity system. If their work is not satisfactory as per the requirement or the duration of interruption is increasing because of their incompetency, immediate action must be taken against them.
