Pune, 8th May 2024: Symbiosis Law School, Pune, a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), organized the 12th Annual International Research Conference – Rule of Law in Context: Rethinking Law and Policy with reference to Quality of Life as Global Economic Justice (SYMROLIC 2024) on May 3 and May 4, 2024. The event shed light on legal research responding to emerging areas of AI, SDG, vulnerable, and international comparative law.

Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur, Fulbright Scholar, Director, Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Dean, Faculty of Law, SIU, Jean Monnet Chair (EUC LAMP co-funded by EU) extended a gracious welcome address, setting the tone for the proceedings with great poise.

The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Indrajit Dube, Vice Chancellor, National Law University, Meghalaya shared his wisdom on the day of commencement and inaugurated the newly developed Culture, Language, Law & Justice Lab.

With grace and eloquence, Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur initiated the Plenary session by delineating the thematic essence of the event. The first session, titled ‘Climate Justice and Child Rights’, was delivered online by Prof. Dr. Asha Bajpai, Visiting Faculty, SLS, P from Kansas, US. The second session, ‘Role of AI in Contributing or Impeding Quality of Life – What Role it Can Play?’ was delivered virtually by Prof. Dr. T T Arvind, Head of Department, York Law School, University of York, York, from the UK. The Plenary session drew close with insightful remarks by Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur.

A workshop centered on the theme of Integrating Indian Knowledge System in Research Today was conducted by Prof. Dr. Sadanand Mishra, Director, Centre for Human Sciences, Rishihood Sonipat, Dean, Culture, Rishihood University, Sonipat. The workshop also included an interactive quiz session conducted by Mr. Sachin Ravi, Co-Founder of QShala. Three parallel tracks on various topics under the main theme of SYMROLIC 2024 were also organized. Track 2 was based on Business, Trade, Commerce, Management, and Law. Track 4, focused on EU Climate Justice Law, Governance, Management, and Policy, saw a total of 8 Presentations. Track 6 delved into Public Law, Society, and Governance, which hosted 12 paper presenters.

Day 2, May 4, 2024, witnessed three parallel tracks based on the sub-themes of SYMROLIC 2024. Track 1 focused on Law and Human Behavior – National and International Perspectives, having 7 presentations. Track 3, focused on International Law, Policy, and Governance, witnessed a total of 6 presentations. Track 5 delved into Innovation, Science, Technology, and Law, which hosted 11 paper presenters. The workshop on ‘Cyber Vistas of Legal Research’ was hosted by Sachin Ravi, co-founder of Qshala, on the second day. The Chief Guest for the august event was Prof. Dr. Pramod Damle, Professor and Head IT at YASHADA; Former Distinguished Fellow at Info Security Reserve Bank’s IDRBT; Former Professor and Head of Research and Consulting at Symbiosis Institute of Telecom Management.

The Valedictory Ceremony unfolded the same day with the profound words of Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur. Following which the results were disclosed, and winners were announced to receive warm applause from Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur, Prof. (Dr.) Bindu Ronald, and Prof. (Dr.) MRK Prasad: Hardik Jain and Rishi Khemnani, Students, SLS-P, were declared winners from Track 2 for their paper ‘Advancing Insolvency Resolution Implementation a tailor-made mediation framework under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016’. Saahithi Kristipati, Student, SLS-P, emerged as the winner from Track 4 for her paper ‘The need for implementation of Broken Windows Theory coupled with Doctrine of Locus Poenitentiae to in turn foster a clean and safe environment’. From Track 6, Rishi Manrai, Amity Business School, Gurugram, and Prof Dr. Davindar Kaur Sohi, Faculty SLSP, emerged victorious for their paper, ‘Digital Payment: Adoption by Citizens of Tier 2 Cities in India: Studying Moderating Role of Pandemic COVID-19’.

Pritha Ghosh, Student, SLS-P, from Track 1 emerged triumphant for her paper ‘GIFT City IFSC: A Catalyst for Global Economic Justice’. From Track 3, Ananya Ahajoy, Student SLS-P, and Prof Kshitij Naikade, Assistant Director, SLS-P, were declared the winners for their paper ‘Bangtan Boys Paved the Way: China’s Deficiency in Soft-Power Diplomacy and India’s Need to Expand through the Lens of Pop Culture in Asia’. Shubhangi Gupta, Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur, emerged as the winner for her paper ‘Evolving landscape of licensing standard essential patents and Internet of Things – An analytical study’ from Track 5.

The ceremony wrapped up with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Bindu Ronald, Professor, Co-Head, SCALSAR, Symbiosis Law School, Pune.
