From Farm to Festivity: Lord Ganesha Decorated with 22 Vegetable Varieties in Pune
Market Yard, 2nd September 2025: A unique blend of devotion and creativity marked the Ganesh festival at the Shri Sharda Gajanan Temple in Market Yard on Tuesday, where Lord Ganesha was decorated with 22 varieties of fresh leafy vegetables.
The decoration featured fenugreek, coriander, dill, safflower greens, chawli leaves, beetroot, red amaranth, red radish, white radish, ambadi (sorrel), spring onions, mint, curry leaves, sorrel leaves (chuka), chakwat, red rajgira, lemongrass, and several others. Thousands of bundles were artistically arranged around the idol, creating a striking display that drew the attention of devotees and visitors alike.
The initiative was led by Market Yard vegetable traders Rajendra Suryawanshi, Nitin Jamge, Prakash Dhamdhere, Rohan Jadhav, Mahendra Kekane, and Vijay Dhamdhere. They highlighted that the decoration symbolized respect for farmers, whose year-round hard work makes such produce possible.
Special prayers were offered with the wish: “May Baliyraja (the farmer) live happily, and may the efforts of farmers be rewarded with prosperity and success.”
Speaking about the concept, Rajendra Suryawanshi said, “This natural and creative decoration with leafy vegetables has added a fresh and unique touch of nature to this year’s Ganesh festival.”
