Pune, May 13, 2020: Day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised on ‘local products’, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an order that only Made in India items will be sold in central armed police forces (CAPFs) canteens from June 1.

“Yesterday, PM Modi had appealed to encourage local products and make India self-reliant. In this direction, Ministry of Home Affairs has decided that only indigenous products will be sold at all CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) canteens from 1st June 2020,” the Home Minister of India said.

The CAPFs have become the first set of organisations in the country that are willing to implement selling of indigenous goods. About 50 lakh family members of about 10 lakh CAPF personnel will use indigenous products. Central canteens altogether sell products worth about Rs 2,800 crore annually.

Shah tweeted that the MHA has decided to opt for local products and is focusing more on being self-reliant and self-sufficient. He also appealed people of the nation to use maximum products which are made in the country and encourage others to do the same. According to Shah, if every Indian pledge to use products made in India (Swadeshi), the country can become self-sufficient in the next five years.

The government says that making country self- reliant will largely benefit middle class, small firms, labourers, small industrial sectors and farmers to boom and pave a new way towards country development.
