Pune, 17th August 2023: In an inspiring cross-border initiative, Poona Hospital and Research Centre, in collaboration with the Indian Army’s IMTRAT (Indian Military Training Team) and the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH) in Thimphu, organized a transformative week-long surgical camp. This camp, specializing in plastic and vascular procedures, aimed to provide hope and relief to those in need.

Heading this noble endeavor was Dr. Abhishek Ghosh, a renowned microvascular and reconstructive surgeon from Poona Hospital. The camp showcased a fusion of medical expertise and compassion, emphasizing the potential of healthcare to transcend boundaries.

The primary objective of the event was to offer comprehensive medical aid and intricate surgical procedures to individuals without any cost burden. The surgical camp featured a variety of intricate cases, highlighting the remarkable skills of the medical professionals involved. Procedures ranged from complex reconstruction surgeries after gunshot wounds to addressing necrotizing leg infections and restoring mobility for individuals with burns contracture and tendon disruptions.

Dr. Abhishek Ghosh’s vision went beyond immediate healing; he aimed to empower young surgeons to handle intricate cases independently in the future. This emphasis on knowledge-sharing aligned with the core values of the medical community.

Dr. Ghosh facilitated the camp with specialized surgical equipment, relieving the pressure on local resources. The Indian Army and IMTRAT’s support played a pivotal role in ensuring the camp’s success, reinforcing the spirit of collaboration and humanitarianism.

Dr. Sonam Dargay, Head of Surgery at Thimphu’s Referral Hospital, hailed the camp as a significant addition to Bhutan’s healthcare landscape. Expressing deep gratitude, Dr. Dargay hoped for the continuation of such initiatives that not only heal but also foster lasting bonds of goodwill.

Poona Hospital’s commitment to charitable principles and healthcare accessibility shone through in this effort. Alongside the surgical camp, the hospital has actively engaged in telemedicine sessions, offering expert medical advice to Bhutanese citizens regularly. These endeavors reflect the hospital’s steadfast dedication to reducing suffering and enhancing well-being, irrespective of geographical boundaries.

Dr. Ravindranath, CEO of Poona Hospital, encapsulated the essence of these initiatives, highlighting their embodiment of the institution’s charitable ideals. As Poona Hospital’s benevolent reach extends across borders, it serves as a poignant reminder of the far-reaching impact of compassionate healthcare.
