Pune, February 15, 2021: FASTag will be made mandatory on every vehicle in India from today. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said that the timeframe for making FASTag would not be extended. Therefore, vehicle owners are requested to adopt the e-payment facility immediately. FASTags was introduced in 2016. People will get rid of the long queue at the toll plaza due to FASTag.

While answering a question of FASTag at Nagpur airport, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari told the media that the government has increased the date of FASTag registration 2-3 times, and now it will not be extended further. At the moment, everyone should buy FASTag immediately. Simultaneously, if the vehicle owner does not have FASTag on the vehicle, they have to pay a double toll tax. So far, only ten percent of the vehicles do not have FASTag.

How to buy FASTag?

FASTag can be purchased at toll plaza through Bank, Paytm, Amazon.in, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, and Paytm Payments Bank. The central government has extended the FASTag deadline for vehicles from 1 January 2021 to 15 February 2021.

The FASTag is a sticker affixed to the vehicle’s windscreen and does not require the vehicle to be stopped for any cash transaction. It uses RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology to make payments at toll plazas. The amount taken at the toll plaza is deducted directly from the account associated with FASTag.
