Camp, 14th April 2023: The central government has issued a gazette notification instructing the Pune Cantonment board (PCB) to stop collecting vehicle tax for entry into the Cantonment area. Effective from today, the toll collection check posts have been shut.

Vehicle Entry Tax (VET) was the major source of revenue for the Pune Cantonment board, with check posts located at 13 different locations throughout the Cantonment, generating an annual revenue of Rs 13 crores.

While the closure of this facility has reduced the board’s income, the central government’s decision has been welcomed by the citizens.

However, on the other hand, the board has been struggling to receive its share of GST for many years, and with the dwindling sources of income, the board’s financial condition has worsened, said officials from the revenue department of the board.
