Garbage Collection: PMC To Organise Plogathon On October 24 In Pune

Pune, 5th October 2021: A plogathon or plog-a-thon is being organized on 24th October in Pune city and a planning meeting was held today regarding this event. In 2019, Pune became the first city in the country to organize a plogathon.
A plogathon is a walk that collects garbage on foot and contributes to the cleanliness of the city. When we first organized 2019, one lakh Puneites had set a new record by participating in it. This year, the mega drive will be organised on 98 main roads and at 178 parks. About 500 schools, both municipal and private, will participate in the program, informed Mayor Murlidhar Mohol in a press conference.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Sunita Wadekar, Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Leader of Opposition Deepali Dhumal, RPI group leader Farzana Sheikh and heads of various departments, all Deputy Commissioners.
The meeting discussed in detail the need for meticulous planning during the implementation of the plogathon, meticulous planning at the ward level as well as creating awareness among the people of Pune, increasing citizen participation, involving influential personalities in the campaign.
