Pune, 8th September 2021: The Centre today said in the Supreme Court that girls would be allowed to take part in the course of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, and it was a historic decision.

The Supreme Court is hearing a petition which seeks to direct the government to allow girl candidates to sit for the NDA, a tri-services training academy of the Indian Armed Forces, and Naval Academy examinations and allow training at NDA.

The government, however, said it needs some time to frame guidelines to pave the way for girls to take NDA courses. The Supreme Court has told the centre to file its reply by September 20.

Expressing happiness over the decision, the Supreme Court said that this important step has been taken towards ensuring equal rights for women in a respected service like the Armed Forces.
