Gold ornaments worth Rs 2.5 crores seized in Chennai Express

Pune – Officials from the Pune  Government Railway Police (GRP) have detained three persons with gold ornaments worth Rs 2.5 crores after they failed to show proof of ownership. The GRP has handed over them to Income Tax (IT) department for further investigation.

The incident took place around 9.30 am when the GRP officials were conducting routine checking in Mumbai-bound Chennai Express. They suspected the persons, A1 coach, and carrying the ornaments in two plastic boxes. They started arguing with the sleuths following which they were brought to the GRP police station.

Police officials said that the persons are couriers for illegal transportation of gold.

They have been identified as Govind Prajapati (35) of Mumbai, Vipul Rawal (19) and Pratapsingh Rao (27), both natives of Rajasthan.

IT Department officials said that their probe is going on.
