GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS: 9 BRD AF

The history of 9 Base Repair Depot  Air Force  dates back to post independence era, when Base Signal Repair Unit (BSRU) was formed at Pune on 01 May 1957 by pooling resources and manpower from Wireless Repair Section at Kanpur and Radio Repair Section at Bombay.  Later, on 01 April 1966, BSRU was re-christened as No.9 Base Repair Depot. Today, 50 years have since been completed. Depot is celebrating the year 2016 as the Golden Jubilee Year of 9 BRD. As part of the celebrations, a seminar on ‘Make In India’ along with ‘Indigenisation Mela’ was organised on 25 October 2016.

The seminar started with lighting of lamp and inaugural address by Air Marshal
Pankaj Aneja Vishist Seva Medal, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command, Indian Air Force.  The seminar was attended by senior officers from Maintenance Command and Air Headquarters, Commanders of Base Repair Depots,  Air Officer Commanding Advance Headquarter,  Air Officer Commanding 2 Wing, veteran Senior Officers and representatives from 512 Army Base Workshop, Commandant College of Military Engineering (Nuclear Biological Chemical Wing). The seminar was divided into four sessions covering the Role of BRDs in Sustenance of IAF Fleets, Enhancing Product Support to IAF, Indian Air Force Offerings for MSMEs and Emerging Technological Advancements and Opportunities in the aerospace sector.

To add more value to the Golden Jubilee seminar, a Maintenance Command Indigenisation Mela was also conducted.  The Mela showcased Mechanical and Electronic items that have been successfully developed by Indian Air Force along with industry partners in the past and also items that are now planned for future developments. This was a single stop point for all firms present on the occasion to show case their strength and also assess feasibility of development of the items on display.

All the Guests and retired Commanders of 9 BRD were felicitated by Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command on the occasion and the contributions made by the Depot towards enhancing operational efficiency of IAF in the field of Electronics and Communication were highlighted. The seminar contributed in paving way for the future projects planned in Indian Air Force.
