Good Work Pune Police: 75-Year-Old Woman Reunited With Family After Two Years, Was Abandoned For Last 2 Years

Pune, January 23, 2021: The officials from Bharosa Cell of Pune City Police reunited 75-year-old Vimal Nivrutti Raut who was living on the footpaths for the last two years. Vimal has four daughters, sons-in-law and a total 10 grandchildren yet she had to spend her days on footpaths.

Police Naik Sonvalkar, who is posted with the senior citizens cell at Bharosa Cell, received information from his friend Santosh Khatpe about an old woman, Vimal, living on the steps of a shop near Vartak garden in Shaniwar Peth from the last few days. Khatpe informed that the woman seemed hungry and tired.

As the police reached her, she revealed about her family. She said, “I have four daughters, four sons-in-law and 10 grandchildren. But none of them looks after me. They left me on the streets in 2019 and since then I am living on footpaths.”

Police traced her children and called them to the Bharosa Cell on January 22 and counselled them about taking care of elderly parents as per law. The children apologised to Vimal. Her daughter who stays in Satara took Vimal with her.

The action was taken under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police Ashok Morale, DCP (Crime Branch) Bachchan Singh, ACP (Crime 2) Laxman Borate. The team included Police Inspector Uttam Chakre, Assistant Police Inspector Swati Kedar, Head Constable Jayshree Jadhav and Police Naik Sonwalkar.
