Goon Bail Attacks Pune Hotel Over Rs 15,000 Extortion Demand

Lohgaon, 20th January 2025: A recently released gangster and his associates vandalized a hotel in the Dhanori Jakat Naka area of Pune, demanding a monthly extortion of Rs 15,000 from the owner. The incident occurred on Saturday night at Hotel Amir.
Rohan Ashok Gaikwad, a notorious criminal previously booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) of 1999, led the attack along with seven others. The Airport Police have registered a case against Gaikwad and his accomplices based on a complaint filed by hotel owner Ansar Gafur Shaikh (32).
According to police reports, Gaikwad has a history of serious offences, including attempted murder, illegal weapons possession, and extortion, registered at the Airport and Yerawada Police Stations. He was released on bail recently after being imprisoned under MCOCA in 2022.
The incident unfolded when Gaikwad and his associates visited Hotel Amir around 11:30 PM. They initially created a disturbance by verbally abusing other customers. When asked to leave by the owner, they returned later and began vandalizing the hotel. The gang physically assaulted the hotel manager, Sharif Shaikh, causing head injuries, and threatened the owner with dire consequences if he didn’t pay the monthly extortion amount.
Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Dhamane is investigating the case. The police are currently searching for Gaikwad and his associates, who fled the scene after the incident.
