Govt Starts Helpline To Solve Farmer’s Issues In Maharashtra

Pune 25th July 2023 : In order to address the immediate resolution of complaints related to seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, as well as the submission of fake records by unscrupulous traders, the agriculture department of Maharashtra has started a WhatsApp helpline number 9822446655 for farmers to register their complaints. An official announcement in this regard was made by Agriculture Commissioner Sunil Chavan on Tuesday.

According to officials, a complaint resolution control room has also been set up at the Agricultural Commissioner’s office in Pune which will operate round the clock for the farmers. Besides, farmers can also send their complaints to [email protected]. The identities of those filing complaints will be kept confidential, said officials.

As of 24th July 2023, the state has received an average rainfall of 463.8 mm during the current monsoon season, which accounts for 99% of the normal rainfall. By the same date, 114.64 lakh hectares of the targeted 142 lakh hectares have been sown in the state during the Kharip season. Sowing has gained momentum in crops like cotton, soybean, pigeon pea, as well as the re-sowing of rice. As of 24th July, soybean has been sown on 44.08 lakh hectares, cotton on 39.88 lakh hectares, pigeon pea on 9.66 lakh hectares, and rice re-sowing on 6.69 lakh hectares.

There is a requirement of 19.21 lakh quintals of seeds for the ongoing Kharip season, while 21.78 lakh quintals of seeds are available as per preliminary estimates. The state has already made the provision of 19.30 lakh quintals (100%) of seeds. During seed purchase, farmers have been advised by the agriculture department to buy from authorized sellers and also maintain receipts and tags.

The deadline to apply for the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme is 31st July 2023, and farmers are encouraged to participate in the scheme to the maximum extent possible.

For complaints related to chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or seeds during the kharif season, farmers can contact helpline numbers 8446117500, 8446221750, or 8446331759. For information regarding agricultural schemes, the Agriculture Department’s helpline number is 18002340000, which farmers can use as per their requirements, said officials from the agriculture department.
