Heat Wave Grips Pune District, Scorching Temperatures Reported

Pune, 30th March 2024: In the wake of scorching sunlight and cloudy skies, a widespread heat wave has engulfed the entire district, including Pune city, causing discomfort to residents. Reports from the eastern part of the district indicate temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in many areas, exacerbating the oppressive conditions.

According to the weather department’s forecast, the heat is expected to persist throughout the day and night, with cloudy skies anticipated in the afternoon. The minimum temperature has risen above 22 degrees Celsius, contributing to uncomfortably warm nights.

The intensified heatwave sweeping across the state is notably affecting the district, with Vidarbha and Marathwada regions experiencing a significant surge in maximum temperatures. Pune has recorded an average minimum temperature of 22.5 degrees Celsius, with the mercury peaking at 38.8 degrees Celsius. Conversely, Lonavla reported a comparatively lower maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius.

This heatwave is expected to persist for the next couple of days, posing challenges for agricultural activities and related businesses due to the cloudy weather conditions.

Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Vidarbha

In a separate weather advisory, cyclonic winds have been observed over Chhattisgarh and surrounding regions, hovering at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level. This atmospheric disturbance has resulted in a low-pressure belt extending from Vidarbha to interior Karnataka and interior Tamil Nadu. Isolated thunderstorms have been reported across the state, particularly in Vidarbha.

A yellow alert has been issued for the districts of Amravati, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, and Yavatmal in Vidarbha, warning of rainfall accompanied by isolated gales on Sunday. Residents are advised to stay cautious and take necessary precautions in light of these weather conditions.
