Pimpri Chinchwad, 20th May 2025: A sudden spell of heavy rain disrupted normal life across Pimpri Chinchwad on today, with several parts of the city experiencing power cuts, waterlogging, and incidents of tree falls.

The downpour began around 3 PM and affected areas including Pimpri, Chinchwad, Wakad, Sangvi, Chikhali, Bhosari, Ravet, Punawale, Tathawade, Nigdi, Akurdi, and Pimple Saudagar. Residents across these localities reported intense rainfall that lasted for over an hour.

Electricity supply was disrupted in several zones, with outages lasting more than an hour in some neighborhoods. “We had no power for nearly 90 minutes,” said Ashwini Patil, a resident of Wakad. “With children at home and no backup power, it was very difficult.”

Key roads across the city were waterlogged, causing traffic snarls and delays in public transport services. Commuters were seen navigating through flooded streets, especially in low-lying areas.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) confirmed it had received multiple reports of tree falls but stated that no injuries or major property damage had been reported so far. Civic response teams have been deployed to clear fallen trees and restore disrupted services.

Emergency services remain on high alert, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued rainfall in the coming hours. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and avoid waterlogged areas.

With the monsoon approaching, the early showers have once again raised concerns about the city’s preparedness for prolonged rains.
