Pune, 10th May 2025: In the wake of rising security concerns following Operation Sindoor and escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Pune Division of Central Railway has implemented extensive security protocols at Pune Railway Station and across the Division. The measures aim to ensure the safety of passengers and infrastructure in light of the current alert status.

Pune Railway Station, identified as a sensitive location, has seen reinforced deployment, including an additional Inspector during the evening shift and the introduction of armed patrol teams on platforms, each comprising one officer and two staff members per shift. Regular surprise inspections are being carried out by Gazetted Officers (GOs), and CCTV footage is being closely monitored throughout the station premises.

Senior Divisional Security Commissioner (Sr. DSC) Priyanka Sharma, in a statement to Punekar News, said, “All possible steps are being taken to ensure the safety and security of passengers and railway personnel. We have implemented a coordinated, layered approach involving technology, manpower, and community networks to maintain high alertness.”

Security coordination meetings have been held with the Government Railway Police (GRP), and plainclothes intelligence teams are active both on trains and at station premises. Station shift in-charges and duty officers have been instructed to carry arms, and all ASI-rank officers and above are similarly armed.

Two barracks on Tadiwala Road, each with a capacity of 30 beds, are being maintained for the emergency deployment of a 30-member reserve company. Additionally, a contact list of staff residing near Pune has been handed over to the Divisional Security Control Room (DSCR) to enable rapid mobilization if needed.

To bolster intelligence and response readiness:

  • A dedicated emergency WhatsApp group has been created for swift communication.
  • Night-duty Inspector of Police Force (IPF) has been assigned to coordinate with DSCR.
  • Escorting of 24 key trains across the division is underway, with inspectors monitoring movement within their jurisdiction.
  • Coordination with Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) units is active for intelligence sharing.
  • A joint mock drill involving GRP, civil police, and railway authorities has also been conducted to evaluate preparedness.

In an effort to harness community support, informer networks involving TTEs, porters, vendors, and auto-rickshaw drivers have been established. All station entry points are now manned with staff equipped with handheld metal detectors to ensure thorough screening.

Monitoring through the Rail Madad platform continues, with all incoming inputs under scrutiny.
