“Higher Education in India: Building Robust Institutions” Released at Pune Event
Pune, 5th October 2025: The path-breaking book “Higher Education in India: Building Robust Institution” authored by Dr Susheel Kandalgaonakar- and published by Pentagon Press, was released at the SUmant Moolgaonkar Auditorium in Pune on 4th October. This groundbreaking book that confronts the urgent challenges facing India’s universities and charts a bold roadmap for reform.
The launch which saw the author, the publisher and notable dignitaries speak on what led to the creation of the book, also featuring a high-powered panel discussion chaired by
Dr Bhushan Patwardhan, former Vice-Chairman of the UGC and Dr Ashutosh Bhupatkar, who highlighted the need for higher educational institutions to build a better India.
Coming at a decisive moment in the wake of the National Education Policy (2020), the book argues that building a world-class higher education system in India requires more than just financial investment. It demands strategic institution building rooted in vision, methodology, skills, and values.
Highlighting India’s declining academic climate, the book makes a strong case for strengthening institutional processes that empower faculty, raise research standards, and make universities both locally relevant and globally competitive.
According to Dr Patwardhan, the book provides “practical insights that can transform India’s higher education institutions.” Author and educator Dr Ashutosh Bhupatkar noted that it “fills a major void in the thinking on higher education reform.” Dr A. P. Bhupatkar endorsed the book and emphasised the importance of universities as human and social organisms.
The author, Dr Susheel P. Kandalgaonakar, brings over three decades of academic and consultancy experience, including his leadership at IMDR Pune. His deep scholarship in HR-OB, combined with practical engagement in the industry and research, enriches this work with rare depth and authenticity.
