Hinjawadi Metro: 5 IT Firms Asked to Build Footbridges Connecting Offices to Stations
Hinjawadi, 27th August 2026: With the Hinjawadi Metro corridor expected to partially open next month, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) have approached five large companies in Hinjawadi IT Park to create dedicated foot overbridges (FOBs) connecting their office campuses directly with nearby Metro stations.
The proposed pedestrian links are intended to improve safety and reduce disruption on busy roads, particularly during office hours when large numbers of employees travel to and from the IT hub. The five campuses together have a workforce of nearly 90,000 people.
Under the proposed arrangement, MIDC will make available the land needed for constructing the bridge support structures, while the respective companies will finance and execute the FOB projects.
RG Totla, executive engineer, MIDC, said two companies have already indicated their willingness to take up the work and have received the necessary approvals.
The two proposed bridges will provide direct access from corporate campuses in Hinjawadi Phase 2 to the MIDC Circle, Hinjawadi Circle 1 and Hinjawadi Circle 2 Metro stations. The offices covered by these proposals have a combined workforce of approximately 55,000 employees.
A PITCMRL official described the initiative as a collaborative effort between the Metro agency and corporate establishments to provide safer pedestrian access to the new transit network.
Authorities have also initiated discussions with three other companies for similar pedestrian connections to Metro stations around Maan, Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Hinjawadi and Hinjawadi Circle 1. These establishments employ an estimated 32,000 people.
“Discussions are currently in progress, and we are hopeful of receiving a favourable response,” Totla said.
The proposal has received a positive response from commuters and residents, who have raised concerns about traffic movement and pedestrian safety along roads running below the Metro corridor.
For employees travelling to Hinjawadi from other parts of Pune, the proposed links could also address the last-mile connectivity challenge.
