Kothrud, 19th October 2025: In a significant development in the Kothrud firing case, police have recovered cartridges and ammunition boxes from the residence of accused gangster Nilesh Ghaywal. The discovery has raised questions about how these boxes, originating from the Ammunition Factory in Khadki, ended up at Ghaywal’s house. Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation into the matter.
Ghaywal, currently in Europe, has seven cases registered against him, including the latest at Kothrud police station. The Pune Police have reached out to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) seeking his extradition, and a ‘Blue Corner’ notice has been issued to facilitate his arrest.

During the search of his house in Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Colony, Kothrud, police seized two cartridges, four bullets, and an empty ammunition storage box. Officials suspect that the box belongs to the Khadki ammunition factory. While the box was found empty, further inspection revealed it is designed to hold up to 300 cartridges. Markings on the box indicate the year 2017 and the caliber 5.56 mm. One bullet was found inside the box during police inspection.

Senior police officials said the matter is being thoroughly investigated, including correspondence with the ammunition factory to determine how the military-grade boxes came into the possession of Ghaywal.

The police investigation will seek to establish whether the boxes were diverted illegally and if any lapses occurred at the ammunition factory.
