Huge Response Of Pune Citizens Towards Chipko Movement

Deccan, 29th April 2023: Vigilant citizens of Pune have given a solemn warning to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to immediately stop the cutting of 7,500 trees between Mula-Mutha coastal belt 9,10,11 under the river beautification project.

The Chipko movement organized by Pune River Revival was supported by 67 social organizations and political parties such as Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) (Environment Division), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) (City Division), Congress Party, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray group.

The protest march against tree cutting started from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Park and went down from Deccan Gymkhana Bus Stand via Jangli Maharaj Road to SM Joshi Bridge along the river bank road.

Citizens were seen holding the hoarding stating, “Save The Trees, Save The River, Save Pune”, “Save Mula-Mutha”. The participation of students and women was significant in the said march.

The citizens hugged the trees and held a symbolic protest to immediately stop the cutting of trees. Shots and videos of the actual on-site cutting were shown on the mobile van screen.
