Huge turnout of over 1,50,000 for Drawing & Painting Competition on the theme – Reverence for All life

22 November 2019, Pune – 20th November 2019, Sadhu Vaswani Mission organised its Annual Drawing and Painting Competition. The competition saw a huge turnout of over 1,50,000 (One Lakh Fifty-Thousand) participating students from around 230 schools from the rural (Phursungi, Purandar, Shirur, Chakan, Shikrapur, Indapur, Koregaon Bhima, Urli Kanchan amongst others) and urban (Aundh, Sadhashiv Peth, Shaniwar Peth, Karve Nagar, Camp, Tingre Nagar, Hadapsar, Rasta Peth, Somwar Peth, Shivajinagar amongst others) areas in and around Pune.

Each year, the ‘Drawing and Painting Competition’ is held in observance of Sadhu T.L. Vaswani’s birthday and importantly to spread his teachings of ‘Ahimsa’ and ‘Compassion’ while at the same time aims at reaching out to children, tapping their potential and unfolding their creativity.

The competition was organised in collaboration with the Art Teachers Association, Pune with several participating schools from the Zilla Parishad. The schools were provided with drawing paper and stencilled paper with 7 collection centres at the Sadhu Vaswani Mission and Venus Traders.

Students were divided into four groups — A (1st Std. to 2nd Std.), B (3rd Std. to 4th Std.), (C, D, E- 5th Std. to 10th Std.) and F (11th Std. to 12th Std.). Group A and B were provided with stencilled paper wherein the children were required to colour the stencil. Group C, D & E were to either draw or paint with five topics to choose from. Group F was to either draw or paint from three topics to choose from. Topics were based on compassion towards animals and reverence for all life. The awareness created was magnanimous where all participating schools and students pledged to go ‘meatless’ on 25th November — Sadhu Vaswani’s birthday also observed as ‘Meatless Day’.

Winners will be judged by a panel of artists of the Art Association Pune. Hampers, mementoes, and certificates will be given as awards of appreciation at a separate function.
