IAS M.J. Pradeep Chandran Appointed Additional Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation

Pune, 11th March 2025: The Maharashtra State Government has appointed IAS officer M.J. Pradeep Chandran as the Additional Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), filling a post that had been vacant for the past 11 months. In addition to this role, Chandran will oversee 18 key departments, including Accounts and Finance, Water Supply Projects, Encroachment, Education, and General Administration.
Two Additional Commissioner posts at PMC had remained unfilled for nearly a year. Recently, the state government issued an order appointing Pradeep Chandran to one of these positions. On Monday, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale officially assigned Chandran the responsibility of Additional Commissioner (General).
Experience and Responsibilities
Chandran brings extensive experience from various state government departments to his new role at PMC. Prior to this appointment, he served as Additional Development Commissioner (Industry) at the Directorate of Industries in Mumbai. He has also previously held the position of Collector of Bhandara District. This is his first posting in western Maharashtra.
At PMC, he will now oversee 18 departments, including Audit, Health, Education, Fire Brigade, Technical Department, and Special Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
Vacant Posts at PMC
Last year, as per the directives of the Election Commission of India, senior IAS and police officers across the state were transferred. At that time, the PMC Commissioner and two Additional Commissioners were also transferred. While Dr. Rajendra Bhosale was appointed as the new Municipal Commissioner, and Prithviraj B.P. as an Additional Commissioner, the two other Additional Commissioner positions remained unfilled until now.
Upon assuming office as Additional Commissioner (General), Chandran has already begun reviewing PMC’s various departments. Speaking about his new role, he said, “The Municipal Commissioner has assigned me the responsibility of multiple departments. I am currently familiarizing myself with PMC’s operations to ensure efficient governance.”
