Nagpur, 23rd December 2024: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur successfully organized the IIM Nagpur-Ivey Case Conference 2024, themed “Shaping the Future: Business Management Trends & Insights for Tomorrow.” Held in a hybrid format over two days, December 21-22, the conference brought together a diverse group of participants from around the world, fostering discussions on emerging trends in business management.

The event began with a pre-conference Case Writing Workshop, where prominent experts, including Prof. David Wood, Prof. Narasimhan Ravichandran, Prof. Piyush Kumar Sinha, and Ms. Violetta Gallagher, shared their expertise. The sessions covered essential aspects of case writing, including the creation of effective teaching notes and insights on publishing with Ivey Publishing. Attendees left with a deeper understanding of how to develop impactful academic cases.

The conference received an impressive 452 submissions, of which 361 were chosen for presentation. These contributions included a rich mix of ideas and research from a global pool. Among the 52 international submissions, 30 cases were selected, reflecting the broad reach and diversity of the event.

Researchers from 16 countries across five continents, including the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, South Africa, Australia, and several others, participated in the event. Distinguished scholars from renowned institutions such as Griffith University, National University of Singapore (NUS), University of Tasmania-Ibri (UTAS-Ibri), and the University of Eastern Finland, along with prestigious Indian institutions like IIM Ahmedabad, IIT Kanpur, and XLRI Jamshedpur, contributed to the conference’s intellectual richness.

Notable industry partners, including John Deere, NTPC Limited, and Novo Nordisk India, participated actively, enriching the discussions with practical insights and industry perspectives. The best cases will be forwarded to leading outlets like Ivey Publishing, Emerging Markets Case Studies, Business Perspective and Research, and Vision: The Journal of Business Perspective for potential publication.

A Significant Step for IIM Nagpur’s Research Future
Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur, opened the conference by describing it as a pivotal moment for the institution’s growth in research. “This conference is not just about presenting cases but about building research collaborations with a global focus that also incorporates Indian contexts,” he said. He also highlighted the significance of IIM Nagpur’s partnership with Ivey Publishing, noting that the institution had become the third IIM, following Ahmedabad and Bangalore, to collaborate with the prestigious publisher. A major milestone of this collaboration was the establishment of a dedicated Case Centre on the IIM Nagpur campus, aimed at nurturing case study development and teaching excellence.

Professor Rakesh Gupta, Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at IIM Nagpur, shared that the Case Centre will host various workshops, conferences, and competitions designed to promote case writing and enhance teaching methodologies. “This center will position IIM Nagpur as a leader in research-driven business education,” he stated.

Reflecting on the Institute’s Growth
Prof. Prashant Gupta, Dean of Academics at IIM Nagpur, spoke about the institution’s growth and how events like this conference were integral to its expanding academic influence. “We are committed to enhancing the quality of management education through research and industry engagement,” he said.
