Illegal Fee Collection: Savitribai Phule Pune University Warns Colleges of Strict Action
Pune, 20th May 2026: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has warned colleges against charging illegal fees from students during the admission process and directed institutions to clearly display details of all approved fees.
The university issued the instructions following the declaration of Class 12 results and the commencement of undergraduate admissions across colleges.
Director of Higher Education Shailendra Deolankar has instructed all regional joint directors of higher education and university registrars to strictly implement guidelines related to student fees.
Following these directions, Deputy Registrar of the Academic Admissions Department Munjaji Rasve issued orders to college principals.
As per the guidelines, colleges must display complete details of tuition fees, development fees and other approved charges on notice boards at the entrance of the institution. The same information must also be included in college prospectuses and displayed course-wise on official websites.
The university stated that it is the responsibility of colleges to provide students with detailed information about fees before admission. Colleges have also been instructed to ensure that no complaints arise regarding fee collection.
SPPU has warned that strict action will be taken against institutions found charging fees beyond approved norms or against those receiving complaints from students regarding illegal fee collection.
