Illegal Halting A Major Concern On Pune-Mumbai Expressway : MSRTC Conductor Loses Life In Accident On Friday Evening
Pune 30th Sept 2023: The highway authorities have time and again conveyed the commuters to not halt on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway but the issues seems to be unresolved as yet another accident was reported due to illegal halt on Friday. This time the vehicle blamed for the accident was Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus that was heading towards Thane from Pune. The deceased conductor was identified as Shivraj Mali, a resident of Dharashiv district.
The bus conductor who had deboarded the bus to show direction to the driver was hit by a container truck and died on the spot while the container driver also sustained injuries in the accident. An official of the highway authorities said “It is not allowed to halt vehicles on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway but the bus was halted for a passenger who allegedly had a quarrel with the driver and conductor. The conductor was standing on the road without any indicators in hand at night to show directions to the driver while he was moving the bus. The point where they were trying to halt the bus has a sharp turn due to which the container truck coming from behind could not control the speed and the conductor who was standing on the road was hit and died on the spot.”
The incident was reported at 17.900 KM on the expressway and the container driver sustained minor injuries in the accident. The accident was reported at around 8:50 pm on Friday. Fortunately, no passengers in the bus suffered injuries in the accident. However, the incident raises serious concerns about illegal halting on the expressway as many people mostly travelling in their cars halt to witness the beauty of nature around Lonavala during the rainy season.
