Pune, 17th April 2026: After days of intense heat and rising temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Pune and several districts of Maharashtra between April 18 and April 20, offering some relief from the prevailing hot weather conditions.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall with thunder, lightning and gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph is likely in parts of the state during the three-day period. Pune is among the districts expected to receive rain on April 20.

Meteorologists said changing weather patterns have developed due to a wind discontinuity extending from northeast Madhya Pradesh to the Gulf of Mannar through Marathwada and Vidarbha in the lower atmospheric levels. In addition, an upper-air anticyclonic circulation has formed over Karnataka and adjoining Maharashtra.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for several districts likely to witness thunderstorms and rainfall. On April 18, Solapur and Dharashiv are expected to receive rain. On April 19, Solapur, Dharashiv, Latur and Nanded are likely to be affected. On April 20, rain activity is forecast in Ahilyanagar, Pune, Satara, Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Parbhani, Hingoli and Nanded districts.

At the same time, the weather department has warned of heatwave conditions in isolated areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha on April 18, and in some parts of Vidarbha on April 19. Yellow alerts have also been issued for these areas.
