Pune, 4th May 2023: The Income Tax Department has initiated raids in Pune’s Aundh area this morning, targeting builders suspected of malpractices. Sindh Society in Aundh, along with three other locations, has been raided by the department.

The department has not disclosed the names of the businessmen targeted in the raids, nor have they provided any information on the amount of money seized.

The construction business is under scrutiny, and the Income Tax Department is closely monitoring the proceedings. The raids are part of the department’s ongoing efforts to curb tax evasion and enforce compliance with tax regulations.

A team of 60 to 70 officers from the Income Tax Department raided the offices and homes of four prominent builders in Pune on Thursday morning. The department had reportedly received information about financial irregularities related to these builders and their companies. The raids were carried out on the locations of GK Associates, ANP Group, Legacy Group, and Adi Group.

Under the leadership of Additional Director Mahendra Bishnoi, the Income Tax Department team seized several laptops, hard disks, and documents during the raids. The alleged irregularities are said to involve large-scale cash transactions in the purchase of land and sale of flats. The correct information about the seized goods and irregularities will be available only after the completion of the raid.

This is the second major raid conducted by the Income Tax Department in Pune in 2023 after the City Corporation of Pune. The department has become completely faceless, and the Finance Minister has called for strict action against taxpayers who take advantage of this. This is the first action by the Income Tax Department in Pune following the Finance Minister’s remarks.

The builders targeted by the raids were not available for comment, and attempts by Punekar News to contact them were unsuccessful. Some did not answer their phones, while others requested that the media call back later due to family issues.

The Income Tax Department’s raids have been ongoing since Thursday morning, and they are expected to continue until all necessary documents and evidence are seized.

Further details on the ongoing investigation will be disclosed as they become available.
