Delhi, 4 January 2021: The Income Tax (IT) Department is recording Robert Vadra’s statement in the UK property case. The son-in-law of Congress party’s interim chairperson Sonia Gandhi and husband of the party’s national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, Vadra, is accused of purchasing the property through illegal means in the UK.

A few months ago, Robert Vadra was frequently called to the office of Enforcement Directorate (ED). During the period, the ED told the Delhi High Court that Robert Vadra needs to be detained and questioned. The investigating agency had claimed that he was directly related to the links of money transactions. The ED also accused Vadra of not cooperating in the investigation of the money laundering case against him.

However, Vadra’s lawyer has dismissed the ED’s claims. He asserted that whenever the agency summons his client, he appears before them. He has fully cooperated in the investigation and had answered the ED’s questions. Not accepting the allegations leveled against him does not mean that he is not cooperating.

The lower court has granted Vadra anticipatory bail. Following which the ED challenged the decision in the High Court. Vadra is accused of money laundering in purchasing a property worth Rs 17 crore at 12, Bryanston Square, London.
