India Celebrates National Women’s Day Honoring Sarojini Naidu’s Legacy

New Delhi, 13th February 2025: India observes National Women’s Day today, February 13, Remembering the birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu, also known as the “Nightingale of India”. Naidu, born in 1879, was a leading figure in India’s independence movement, a celebrated poet, and a passionate advocate for women’s rights.
Her contributions spanned from literature to politics, including her active participation in the Civil Disobedience Movement and the Quit India Movement. She also played a crucial role in shaping policies for women’s empowerment in the Indian Constitution.
Sarojini Naidu’s dedication to women’s empowerment makes her an inspiring figure, and her birthday is a fitting occasion to celebrate the progress of Indian women in society.
The observance serves as a reminder of the ongoing pursuit of gender equality and the need to empower women to make independent choices. Sarojini Naidu championed women’s empowerment through education, advocating for their active involvement in politics and the Indian independence movement. In 1925, Sarojini Naidu became the first woman to be appointed as the President of the Indian National Congress Party. Later, she became the first female governor in independent India, serving as the Governor of the United Provinces (now Uttar Pradesh).
