India: Government To Combine Doses Of Corona Vaccine From Different Companies To Test Their Efficiency

New Delhi, 31st May 2021: The immunization campaign is slowly being accelerated in India. The months of April and May faced vaccine shortages as in many cities vaccination centres had to shut for multiple days. For this, not only vaccine production is being increased to record levels, but also the combination of doses of corona vaccine from two different companies is being considered.
Dr NK Arora, chairman of the Covid-19 working group working under the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI), has said that in the next few weeks, the mixing of two different vaccines will be tested to see if the effect of the vaccine is increasing.
Dr Arora said that one dose of a vaccine and the other dose of any other vaccine will be combined to fetch the results. There is a plan to start a study on this in the next few weeks.

On Sunday, the Serum Institute of India based in Pune had said that it would produce 10 to 12 crore doses of Covishield from June itself, which is about 50 percent more than the present production level. Bharat Biotech is also scheduled to increase the production of Covaxin by the end of July.
According to Dr Arora, by the end of August, 20 to 25 crore doses of the vaccine will be available in India every month. Apart from this, if you add vaccines from other manufacturing units or from abroad, then 5 to 6 crore additional doses will also be available.
He also added that at present, the goal of the government is to give vaccines to 10 million people every day in the country.
