Indian Army Showcases Its Might Through A Know Your Army Mela At Pune Race Course

Pune, 3rd January 2025: Under the inspiring theme “Samarth Bharat Saksham Sena”, the much anticipated ‘Know Your Army Mela’ commenced on 03 January 2025 at the RWITC, Pune. Organised under the aegis of the Southern Command, the event opened with grandeur and patriotic fervor, reinforcing the Indian Army’s commitment to building a strong and self-reliant India.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, who emphasized the enduring bond between the Army and the people. Joining him were distinguished personalities including Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, Army Commander Southern Command, senior military commanders and prominent members of the civil administration. This year’s mela holds special significance as it also celebrates the historic Army Day Parade being hosted in Pune for the very first time. A captivating teaser video was unveiled during the event, inviting the public to witness this landmark celebration at BEG Parade Ground on 15 January 2025

The three-day military showcase running until 5 January 2025 aims to inspire the youth, while providing a rare opportunity to give an exposure to advanced military weapons, equipment and vehicles to all citizens. The mela has already drawn huge footfall on its opening day, including students from prominent schools and colleges across the city.

On display are a range of Military weapons, equipment and technologies, including Infantry and Special Forces equipment, such as K-9 Vajra, 155 MM BOFORS, PINAKA ,SMERCH, T-90 and BMP-II tanks of mechanised forces, Air Defence systems, including L-7-, ZU-23, Akash and the upgraded Schilka, Swarm Drones and other newly inducted vehicles, demonstrating advancements in protection and mobility.

Attendees were also fascinated with the immersive Indian Army Photo Exhibition by Central Bureau of Communication, displaying the capabilities of Indian Army and the Dynamic Display consisting of Martial Music, Martial art, Dog Show, Horse Show and traditional performances. The mela is open to public on all three days from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM.

CM Fadnavis emphasised that initiatives like ‘Know Your Army Mela offer citizens a rare and invaluable opportunity to interact with Army Personnel and gain insight into the advanced technologies and equipment profiles that bolster the Army’s operational prowess. He underscored how such events serve as a vital bridge uniting the Indian Army with the Public while showcasing its resilience, strength and technological excellence.
