Indian Student Allegedly Mistreated by US Police at Newark Airport, Sparks Outrage

New Jersey, 10th June 2025: A video showing a group of U.S. police officers pinning down an Indian student at Newark Liberty International Airport has gone viral, raising serious concerns about the treatment of international travelers and alleged human rights violations on American soil.
The incident reportedly occurred after the student, stressed and anxious, struggled to answer questions during a pre-boarding immigration check. Rather than being given time or support, he was asked to step aside. Moments later, multiple officers were seen forcefully restraining him on the floor, as if he were a threat or armed criminal.
The disturbing footage—shared by Indian-American Kunal Jain on Twitter—shows the student lying face down with 4–5 officers standing over him. He was not seen resisting arrest or displaying any aggressive behavior. Jain identified the individual as an Indian immigrant and highlighted that the incident took place within the airport, not on the streets.
Social media erupted with criticism, especially given the U.S.’s strong global stance on human rights and mental health awareness. Many called the treatment excessive and traumatic, particularly for someone already under emotional distress in a foreign country.
The Indian Consulate has acknowledged the incident and confirmed that they will intervene and follow up with U.S. authorities to ensure a fair investigation.
This episode has reignited debates on racial profiling, immigrant rights, and the accountability of law enforcement. Critics argue such incidents can severely impact the mental well-being of international students and damage trust in American institutions that claim to uphold dignity and justice.
