Pune: Katraj-Kondhwa Road Work Delay Sparks Outrage; Legislative Council Chairman Demands Completion Before Winter Session

Mumbai, 10th June 2025: Despite the Maharashtra government allocating Rs 140 crore for the Katraj-Kondhwa road project in Pune, the work remains incomplete even after a year, drawing sharp criticism from Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Prof. Ram Shinde. He has issued clear directives for the project to be finished before the upcoming winter session and has called for action against those responsible for the delays.
The issue was highlighted by MLC Yogesh Tilekar during the budget session on 7th March, through a special mention. A meeting was subsequently held in Prof. Shinde’s office, attended by MLC Tilekar, Legislative Secretary Dr. Vilas Athawale, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram (via video conference), Additional Commissioner Omprakash Divate, and Deputy Secretary for Urban Development Priyanka Chhapawale.
Although the widening of the Katraj-Kondhwa road was approved in 2018, the project has been stalled for seven years, leading to a significant increase in land acquisition costs. Even after receiving the requested funds from the government a year ago, the land acquisition process is still incomplete. Prof. Shinde has labeled the delay as a serious concern and has instructed that those accountable be penalized, with a report on the project’s completion to be submitted before the winter legislative session.
