India’s Democratic Model and Women’s Leadership Inspire the World: Dr. Neelam Gorhe at CPA Global Conference in Barbados
Barbados/Pune, 11th October 2025: The 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Global Conference concluded successfully in Barbados on Friday, bringing together over 300 delegates, including parliamentarians from around 20 to 22 countries.
On the final day of the conference, discussions focused on the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
Speaking on the issue, Dr. Neelam Gorhe emphasized that “a democracy is truly complete only when every section of society, especially persons with disabilities, participates equally and with dignity.”
She also called for a Zero Tolerance Policy towards violence and discrimination against women, stressing the need to strengthen implementation mechanisms to ensure justice and safety.
Dr. Gorhe represented Maharashtra at the conference’s concluding general assembly. Reflecting on her experience, she described the event as “deeply meaningful and inspiring,” adding that interactions with delegates from various countries brought forth new perspectives on gender equality, women’s representation, democratic strengthening, and international cooperation.
The speeches delivered by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh were widely appreciated by the attendees. Delegates also had the opportunity to hear from Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley and President Sandra Mason, whose insights received much attention.
During the event, Dr. Gorhe engaged in discussions with Natasha Asghar, former Welsh Conservative MP from South Wales; Juan Watterson SHK, Speaker of the House of Keys of the Isle of Man; and Senator Wade Mark, President of the Senate of Trinidad and Tobago, among others.
The CPA conference highlighted India’s democratic values and women’s leadership as exemplary models for the global community, with Dr. Gorhe’s participation further strengthening India’s presence in international parliamentary dialogues.
