Mumbai, October 13, 2020: IndiaZakat.com (IZC) an initiative of Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP), was launched as India’s first Zakat Crowdfunding platform on 24th April 2020, on the eve of holy month of Ramzan. It turned out to be a great boon for the poor and needy people who were confined to homes during Corona lockdown. Funds were mobilized in order to provide ration kits to hundreds of families in different parts of the country through network of AMP volunteers.  Generous donors have contributed their zakat, sadquat and other donations to number of causes raised on the platform.  Financial assistance was given for payment of education fees to economically backward students, healthcare needs, relief to disaster affected people, livelihood support and orphan support.  Indiazakat has indeed emerged as a blessing in disguise in these difficult times.

Md. Dilshad Ahmad, a Patna based youth, selected for admission into Master’s Degree course in Public Policy Programme at a premier institute, National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore had to pay a hefty fee Rs 2.77 lakh. Without having full fees and not knowing what to do, he took to social media and approached Mr. Aamir Edresy, President, AMP. Immediately, he arranged for a cause to be raised on IndiaZakat.com, a crowdfunding platform, seeking contribution to the extent of shortfall in fee payment.  People responded with electrifying speed. In matter of 3 hours, an amount of Rs 1.50 lakh was funded by 55 persons.

Dilshad said, “I would like to thank each and every person who made the contribution on IZC platform and helped me in accomplishing my dream. One day, Inshallah, I will fulfil someone else’s dream in future.”

Mr. Ausaf Usmani, a regular Donor on IZC, expressed immense happiness on this important Milestone and said “IndiaZakat.com gives freedom to a Zakat or Sadaqah donor as it doesn’t keep you bound to Ramzan when it is usually the practice of these donations. Additionally, there is transparency as you know in which cause the Donations is going and besides IZC is not charging any service fees so you have the satisfaction of seeing your entire contribution go to the beneficiary except the Bank/UPI service charges.”

Mr. K. M. Riyazuddin, Project Head – IZC, said “This is, indeed, a great beginning of our journey.  In the days to come we will, inshallah, cross many more milestones with the sole vision of transforming today’s Zakat receiver to be tomorrow’s Zakat giver. We request all to be part of this wonderful journey and continue to lend your support.”
