Infosys Fires 700 Freshers, Employee Union Alleges Unethical Dismissals

Pune/Bengaluru, 8th February 2025: Infosys, a leading technology firm, has reportedly dismissed over 700 newly hired employees, according to claims made by the IT employee union, Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), on Friday.
The union alleges these fresh recruits were let go just a few months after joining the company. Furthermore, the dismissed employees were allegedly required to sign confidentiality agreements, which NITES suggests could be an attempt to prevent them from disclosing details about the layoffs.
“In a deeply concerning and unethical move, Infosys has begun forcibly terminating around 700 campus recruits who were inducted only a few months ago,” stated NITES president Harpreet Singh Saluja.
The union further alleged that during the termination process, the company deployed security personnel and bouncers, seemingly intimidating the affected employees. Saluja claimed that the employees were not allowed to carry mobile phones, preventing them from documenting the event or seeking assistance. NITES has raised concerns over the abrupt nature of these dismissals and their potential consequences for the impacted workers.
Responding to the allegations, Infosys issued a statement explaining that the terminated freshers had failed multiple internal assessments, which are a mandatory part of the onboarding process. According to the company, all freshers are given three opportunities to clear these evaluations, and failure to do so results in disqualification, as per the terms of their contracts.
Infosys further clarified that this evaluation process has been in place for over two decades. The company defended the practice, stating that such measures are essential to ensuring that only candidates who meet the required standards continue with the organization.
Meanwhile, NITES has announced its intention to file an official complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, urging the government to intervene and take strict action against Infosys.
“This kind of blatant corporate exploitation must not be allowed to persist. We call on the government to take swift action to safeguard the rights and dignity of Indian IT professionals,” Saluja asserted.
