Much of the research generates, analyses data making it ubiquitous especially in applied sciences whether it is natural, physical and social.  Worldwide there has been keen interest in Big Data applications in many a domain.  We foresee at least four key players in the emerging Data Science – Library and Information Professionals (involved in acquisition, curation and publishing big data), computer science professionals (creating plat forms for big data like hadoop eco-system), statisticians (analytics and visualization) and domain experts.

The situation opens up new and interesting opportunities for professionals to explore and learn all aspects of what has taken the shape, holistically, ofDATA SCIENCE.  In view of the developments in data, Documentation Research and Training Centre, Indian Statistical Institute announces International Conference on Big Data and Knowledge Discovery (ICBK). The objective of the conference is to offer a platform for exchange of ideas of the international community related to all aspects of data science.  The conference offers the opportunity to explore the main theme of Big Data and Knowledge discovery under the following themes.
