Pune, 17th October 2025: Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil has directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to prepare a comprehensive road development plan in view of the upcoming international cycling competition to be held in the city. He emphasized that high-quality roads must be developed to meet international standards and ensure the success of the event.

Patil was speaking during a review meeting held on Friday to assess ongoing development works under the PMC. The meeting was chaired by Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, who instructed officials to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) to address issues related to road development and power distribution under MSEDCL.

The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Additional Commissioners Prithviraj B.P. and Omprakash Divate, City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, MLAs Bhimrao Tapkir, Sunil Kamble, Hemant Rasane, Bapusaheb Pathare, MLC Yogesh Tilekar, Chief Engineer of Roads Department Aniruddha Pawaskar, and Chief Engineer of Water Supply Department Nandkishore Jagtap, among other senior officials.

Highlighting the deteriorating road conditions due to recent rains, Patil instructed the PMC to prioritize pothole repairs across the city. He further directed that regular progress reports on pothole filling in various assembly constituencies be shared with the respective MLAs.

“The Municipal Corporation must ensure roads of the required quality for the international cycling event. It is the administration’s responsibility to maintain the city’s image and safety for participants,” Patil said.

During the meeting, Minister Misal also reviewed issues related to Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML). She stressed the need for financial planning and maintenance of the 1,000 newly added buses in the PMPML fleet.

“Both the municipal corporations should compensate the financial losses incurred by PMPML. However, PMPML should work towards becoming financially self-sufficient without depending entirely on municipal aid,” Misal said. She also urged the administration to plan for implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, pending salary differences, and pensions for retired employees.

Earlier, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram presented updates on major civic works, including projects related to roads, water supply, and infrastructure development. MLAs present in the meeting shared their constituency-specific concerns and suggestions to improve coordination between departments.
