International Senior Citizens’ Day celebrated at Punyadham Ashram

The International Senior Citizens’ Day is celebrated in Punyadham Ashram with a lot of zeal every year. This year too, on Sunday 2nd October, it was celebrated with great fervour. Over 450 senior citizens from all over Pune attended the function. Dr. B.K. Upadhyay, IPS, IG Prisons, also a Maha Scholar of Sanskrit and a proponent of Yoga presided over the function In the august presence of Maharashtra Bhushan Shiv Shahir Babasaheb Purandare, Padmabhushan Dr. Vijay Bhatkar and Padmashri Subhash Palekar.

After lighting of the lamp by the esteemed guests, Shri Ramesh Grover M C for the day started the day’s proceedings. Col Ratan Mukherjee (Retd), Medical Director, Paraplegic Home, enthralled the guests with beautiful patriotic songs. This was followed by an enlightening talk by Brig Dr. Y.D.Singh (Retd) on Heart and Brain stroke- How to avoid and tackle these health problems. It was extremely useful information explained in very simple terms, which was appreciated by the audience. Mr. C.M.Asher entertained everyone with his mimicry and songs. What followed was an interesting item put up by Shri Bhupesh Dave on ‘Mind Games’. He kept the audience engrossed with his charm and magic that created surprise and interest in every one present.

It was finally time for honouring our esteemed guests. Shri Sadananda Shetty, President, VJMT felicitated Padmashri Subhash Palekar and Shri Pageji felicitated Maharashtra Bhushan Shiv Shahir Babasaheb Purandare. Maa Krishna Kashyap, Chairperson, felicitated Dr. B.K. Upadhyay. He shared some valuable knowledge on Yoga and how it influences health and our lifestyle. Shri Palekar also shared how organic food should be grown and why we should avoid using poisonous pesticide-ridden food stuff.

Maa Krishna Kashyap then addressed the gathering and said that it’s not our physical age but our thinking that makes us old. So keep busy and stay active in mind and body.
