Pune, 28th March 2024: A significant disruption in power supply hit several parts of Pune city today following an internet cable failure near Mahatransco’s 220 KV high voltage transmission line at Anandvihar in Dhayari. The incident, which occurred at 1:53 pm on Thursday, led to the interruption of power to a 50 MVA power transformer at the Nanded City 220 KV substation.

Approximately 309,000 customers in areas including Vadgaon Dhayari, Narhe, Hingane, Kothrud, Old Sangvi, Padmavati, Dhankawadi, Katraj, and Ambegaon experienced an hour-long power outage as a consequence.

According to reports, the mishap transpired when an internet cable being laid at Anand Vihar inadvertently made contact with Mahatransco’s high-voltage power line. The resultant disruption caused a loud noise, leading to the halt in power supply to the Nanded City substation.

In response to the deficit of approximately 60 MW of electricity, Mahatransco activated its automatic Load Trimming Scheme (LTS) for load management. Load management operations were conducted from multiple substations including Parvati 220 KV, Nanded City 220 KV, Kondhwa (Yewalewadi) 220 KV, Kothrud 132 KV, and NCL 132 KV.

Consequently, power supply to various sub-stations of MSEDCL was halted, affecting over 309,000 customers in several areas such as Vadgaon, Dhayari, Narhe, Kirkitwadi, Sinhagad road, Suncity road, Hingane, Padmavati, Marketyard, Katraj, Ambegaon, Dhankawadi, Old Sangvi, Shitolenagar, Anandnagar, Erandwane, and Dahanukar Colony.

A swift response from Mahatransco’s engineers and technical staff saw them promptly attending to the fault at Anandvihar and rectifying the issue in the high-voltage power line. Power restoration efforts were carried out in a phased manner, with normalcy returning to all affected areas by 2:56 pm.
