IPL 2023: Chennai Beats Delhi By 27 Runs
Chennai, 10th May 2023: Delhi Capitals (DC) were unable to chase Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) 168-run challenge in the 55th match of the season at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. DC could only reach 140 for eight wickets in 20 overs. Chennai won the match by 27 runs and took their score to 15.
Matheesha Pathirana took three wickets and Deepak Chahar took two wickets from Chennai. Rilee Rossouw top-scored for Delhi with 35 runs.
Even though Chennai won the match and earned two points, the points table of IPL did not change. CSK is in the second position with 15 points while Delhi Capitals remained at the bottom.
Chasing the 168 runs set by Chennai Super Kings for victory, Delhi’s batting started leaking from the very first ball. Team captain and opener David Warner was caught by Deepak Chahar on the very first ball. After this, the aggressive batsman Philip Salt hit two sixes and a four. But Deepak ended his innings on 17 runs. Mitchell Marsh, who came after him, also returned after adding five runs.
After Delhi lost three batsmen for just 25 runs, Rilee Rossouw and Manish Pandey saved Delhi’s innings. Both of them made a partnership of 59 runs for the fourth wicket. But this pair was broken by Pathirana. He took the wicket of Manish Pandey for 27 runs. Then Rossouw was also dismissed for 35 off 37 balls by Ravindra Jadeja. Delhi’s grip on the match loosened as half of the team return to the pavilion for 89 runs in 15 overs.
Axar Patel, who came after Rousseau’s dismissal, hit 21 runs off 12 balls with aggressive batting. It created some optimism for Delhi. But in the slog over, Pathirana showed his brilliance again and took the wickets of Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav. In the end, Chennai won the match by 27 runs and took their score to 15 in the points table.
