IPL 2023: Delhi Wins Match By 31 Runs Against Punjab; Earns 12 Points

New Delhi, 13th May 2023: Delhi Capitals (DC) bowled out Punjab Kings (PBKS) for 167 runs. The 58th match of the season was held at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Punjab won the match by 31 runs, restricting Delhi to 136 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.

For Punjab, Harpreet Brar took four wickets for 30 runs while Rahul Chahar and Nathan Ellis took two wickets each. With this win, Punjab kept their playoff dream alive. They have now reached the sixth position in the points table with 12 points.

Punjab Kings had set a challenge of 168 runs to win against Delhi Capitals on the strength of Prabhasimran Singh’s powerful century. Chasing this challenge, Delhi openers David Warner and Philip Salt opened with 69 runs in 6.2 overs. Seeing such a strong opening, Delhi seemed to win this match comfortably. But Harpreet Brar broke the pair by dismissing Salt for 21 runs.

Rahul Chahar then dismissed the dangerous Mitchell Marsh for three runs. In the very next over, Brar dismissed Rilee Rossouw for five runs to take Delhi to 81 for three. Warner was fighting alone, but on the last ball of the same over, Brar took the wicket of Warner who scored 57 runs.

After Warner’s dismissal, Delhi’s hopes of victory were fading. Punjab’s spinners gave Delhi’s batsmen a hard time. Axar Patel was dismissed for one and Manish Pandey for zero runs. Axar was dismissed by Chahar and Pandey was dismissed by Brar. This was Brar’s fourth wicket.

Aman Khan and Pravin Dubey who came next contributed 16 runs each. M Ellis dismissed both of them and pushed Punjab to the pit of defeat. Kuldeep Yadav (10) and Mukesh Kumar (6) took the match to the last over, but couldn’t manage to secure 37 runs.
