IPL 2023: Ishan-Suryakumar’s Partnership of 116-Runs Leads Mumbai To Win Against Punjab By Six Wickets

Mohali, 3rd May 2023: On the strength of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav’s powerful 116-run partnership, Mumbai Indians (MI) chased down Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) challenge of 215 runs in 18.5 overs at the expense of four batsmen and won the match by six wickets. The 46th match of the season was held at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali

Ishan Kishan scored 75 runs and Suryakumar Yadav scored 66 runs for Mumbai. Tilak Varma ended the match with a six off 29 off ten balls. Along with this win, MI finished sixth in the points table with 10 points.

Punjab Kings set a challenge of 215 runs to win against Mumbai Indians. Chasing this challenge, Rishi Dhawan dismissed Rohit Sharma for a wicket in the very first over. After this, Cameron Green and Ishan Kishan saved the innings and gave Mumbai half-centuries in the power play. But Nathan Ellis dismissed Green for 23 runs.

Green was dismissed when Mumbai was on 54 runs. After that, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan started to bat aggressively. Both of them hit aggressive fifties to put Mumbai on the scoreboard in the 14th over. Surya-Kishan create a century partnership. Taking this partnership to 116 runs, both of them took Mumbai to 170 runs in 15 overs.

Now the match was within reach of Mumbai. But Ellis increased the tension of Mumbai by dismissing Suryakumar for 66 runs and Arshdeep Singh dismissed Ishan Kishan for 75 runs. But Tim David and Tilak Varma put together an unbeaten 38-run partnership to seal Mumbai’s victory in the 19th over. Varma scored 26 off ten balls while David scored an unbeaten 19 off ten balls.

Earlier, Punjab Kings thoroughly washed away the Mumbai bowlers by scoring 214 with the loss of three wickets in 20 overs against Mumbai. From Punjab, Liam Livingstone contributed with a storming 82 runs off 42 balls. He was well supported by Jitesh Sharma with an unbeaten 49 runs. Piyush Chawla took two wickets and Arshad Khan took one wicket for Mumbai.
